雲仙普賢岳の噴火やそれによる災害の歴史をご紹介しています。
■ 1990年11月17日「198年振りの噴火」 
この写真は、西側上空からみた噴火開始当日の普賢岳山頂部です。最初に地獄跡火口と九十九島火口から水蒸気爆発を起こしました。
これらの噴煙はやがて衰えましたが、小高い高まりの屏風岩には、地獄跡火口に面して祠があり、普賢大菩薩が祀られていました。水溜まりが普賢池(旧火口)となります。
 注:砲台跡は,間違いで、第二次世界大戦時に敵機来襲を発見するための監視所跡でした。

This photo shows the summit of Mt. Fugen on the day of the eruption, as viewed from the western sky. Initially, steam explosions occurred from the Hell Trace Crater and the Ninety-Nine Islands Crater. Although these volcanic fumes eventually diminished, facing the Hell Trace Crater on the gentle rise of Byobu-iwa (a screen-like rock), there was a shrine dedicated to Fugen Bodhisattva. The water collected formed Fugen Pond (former crater).
Note: The artillery remains were erroneously identified; they were actually the remains of an observation post used to detect enemy aircraft during World War II.
