雲仙普賢岳の噴火やそれによる災害の歴史をご紹介しています。
■ 1991年2月12日「勢力を強める火口」　
　噴火活動は、一旦小康状態になりましたが、３ヶ月後に地獄跡火口の縁に当たる屏風岩頂部や背後から新たな噴火を始めました。この写真では、左側の崖下に祠がかすかに見えています。
　この頃の噴火は最初に比べて降灰が著しく、火口も次第に拡大していきました。やがて、マグマがさらに上昇して浅層地下水に振れ、マグマ水蒸気爆発へと移行し、時折第3火口が激しく噴火しました。

The volcanic activity momentarily subsided, but three months later, a new eruption commenced from the summit of Byobu-iwa, which corresponds to the edge of the Hell Trace Crater, and from behind. In this photo, a shrine is faintly visible beneath the cliff on the left side.
During this period, the ashfall became significantly pronounced compared to the initial phase, and the crater gradually expanded. Eventually, as magma rose further, it interacted with shallow underground water, transitioning to magma-water steam explosions. Periodically, the Third Crater erupted vigorously.
