雲仙普賢岳の噴火やそれによる災害の歴史をご紹介しています。
■ 1991年5月21日「溶岩ドーム出現」　
　5月20日に地獄跡火口に出現した桃形の溶岩ドームは、2日目には地下から突き上げで、引き裂かれるように４つに割れました。屏風岩の頂点から手前にかけて多くの噴気孔が見られます。
　地獄跡火口の手前の水溜まりが拡大された普賢池。一番奥の小さな焼け跡が九十九島火口で、こちらは噴煙が止まっています。この溶岩ドームは、以後3年9ヶ月にわたって、様々な形態を取りながら成長し、この全域を覆ってしまいました。

The peach-shaped lava dome that emerged in the Hell Trace Crater on May 20th pushed upward from underground, and on the second day, it split into four parts as if torn apart. Many fumaroles are visible from the top of Byobu-iwa to the forefront.
The pond in front of the Hell Trace Crater expanded and became Fugen Pond. The small burnt area in the farthest background is the Ninety-Nine Islands Crater, where volcanic fumes have ceased. This lava dome continued to grow in various forms over the next 3 years and 9 months, eventually covering the entire area.
