The symbol of Shirahama floating on the southern seas
Engetsu Island
views:0views
Engetsu Island is a familiar symbol of Shirahama. It is a small island 130 meters north to south floating in the sea south of Rinkaiura, and is officially called "Takashima."
In the center of the island, there is a large hole carved by the waves, which is shaped like a full moon, hence the name ``Engetsu Island.''
This area is also very famous as a sunset spot, and has been selected as one of the ``100 Best Sunsets in Wakayama Prefecture.'' Not only is it beautiful, but the sight of the setting sun overlapping the hole in Engetsu Island is a rare sight.
As a viewpoint from where you can enjoy the scenery, we recommend taking Prefectural Route 34 from Rinkai Bus Stop towards Shirarahama.
In Wakayama Prefecture, it has been designated as a national scenic spot along with Senjojiki and Sandanbebe.
